“What is God doing in your life?”

It seems like such a simple question, yet many of us struggle to come up with an answer. This is especially true during the extreme highs and deep lows of life. I’ve often struggled to articulate what God’s doing in my life during times when I’ve been so busy that slowing down seemed impossible.

Always Look for God’s Hand at Work

It’s easier to answer that question when we take time to look for the ways God is at work in our lives. After all, it’s impossible to see something when you’re not looking!

Whenever my husband and I go to the grocery store, I notice everyone. As the extrovert of the family, I’m always hoping to run into someone we know. Because of that, I’m looking for people I know everywhere.

My husband, on the other hand, isn’t looking for people to talk to. He’s looking for the things we’re shopping for or looking up reviews of products on his phone. Fortunately, there’s nothing wrong with that – without his diligence, I’m sure I’d make some pretty dumb purchases!

But when we stop looking around for God’s work in our lives, we fail to see all the ways the Lord is at work. We can get so focused on the tasks in front of us that we don’t see all the things God is doing. We cannot hear God’s voice if we aren’t listening.

A Challenge to You

This week, I challenge you to find someone who will ask you, “What is God doing in your life?” When you and your friend both know this question is coming, you’ll learn to look around to ensure you’ll always have an answer.

If you’re part of a small group or Bible study, introduce this question into your prayer time. It’s a great way to build a stronger bond between believers while creating a subtle reminder to be on the lookout for what God’s doing.
